How much do Explainer Videos cost?
Like most services and products, the price can vary based upon how you want to approach creating your Explainer Video.
Do It Yourself
On the face of it, this appears to be the cheapest route, they can start from FREE, but you will be limited in the number of templates available, what media is available, the duration of the video and normally, if it’s free, it will be watermarked.
Some platforms go as high as $1,000 per person, per year and, you still have to do it yourself!
The issue about doing it yourself is less about the cost of the platform your using, it’s more about the time it may take you to create your video.
Also, you have to understand what makes a good explainer video?
- Make it original and don’t copy the competition
- Humour – Make it funny! Your video is much more likely to be shared if it tickles your audience
- Keep it simple – The point of an explainer video is to help people understand your product or service better, so don’t over complicate things
- Know your audience – Think about who you’re trying to appeal to and the style of video they’d appreciate
Like anything that is done for the first time, it will take exponentially longer than when you do your 10th, or 20th, or even your 100th video. The problem is you’re unlikely to do 100 videos for yourself, of course you may want to start to deliver this for others, but that’s not the point of this blog.
Outsourcing the service
There are two levels here.
- A service that uses one of the platforms but can deliver a video quickly because they have experience of the platform and you may assume; they have a good and defined process on how a video is created.
- A service that uses bespoke software and a real artist, you may also assume they have a good and defined process on how a video is created.
Service level one;
Service level one can deliver a good video but they are bound by what they have available in their template and media. If they start using common images then the impact of that message is diluted. The image of the Gorilla playing drums to advertise Cadbury’s Chocolate hasn’t been repeated because it would never have the same impact as the original.
The cost of such a service can vary from £100 to more than £1500
Service Level two;
Using a bespoke service appears to be the most expensive option, but you will get an original video with script and images EXACTLY how you want it. For example, if you want a one-legged cat, smoking a cigar in a boat, then out artist can draw that. Try and find that in any media library.
With regard to cost, again this can vary and, we can only comment of what we charge for our service.
We charge a flat rate depending on the number of drawings required, they normally range form 6 frames to 12 frames, the most popular being 10 frames. Each frame is approximately 15 to 25 seconds, depending on the length of the script (We don’t recommend any frame to be longer than 25 seconds – 50 words).
The cost is from £1798 when working on a per drawing basis
The cost is from £1,200 per minute when working on a per word basis
